Hi everybody,

I am one of those who would like to use their HP 5100C scanner with
Linux. I think my problem is an old one, but unfortunatly I could not
find the solution in the archive of this list, at dejanews or where
ever...

http://www2.prestel.co.uk/hex/scanners.html says:

> Hewlett Packard ScanJet 5100C Shuttle This model is functionally
> EPST identical to the 5P, and has
> reported to work under SANE
> with the epst.c module if the
> timeouts are increased.

so I downloaded the epst.?, compiled it and tried it - unfortunatly I
did not manage to get it work properly. It seems to have something to do
with the timeouts, but I could not solve it by simply increasing the
value of EPST_TMO (even up to 10000)...
I have attached a file which might show you what I did; the lines
beginning with "|" are the ones from the users xterm, ">" are from
/var/log/messages
The "scsi : 2 hosts." is ok - I have another "true" SCSI adapter
running for my HDs, CRROM etc.

Any suggestion will be highly appreciated,
        thanks in advance,

best regards,

        Stephan
