Yes. Most PCs shipped now have ECP hardware that will do 'normal' printer
protocol too. Linux 2.3.x can make use of this hardware (see
CONFIG_PARPORT_PC_FIFO).

I don't know, I'm afraid, but I think the answer is 'it depends'. Anyone
