There were some parport bugs in 2.2.5 that are fixed in the latest stable
kernel (2.3.13pre9, but the bugs were fixed in 2.2.9 or so).

I can't think of any known bug that would cause that sort of thing though.
I don't know much about the VPI0 protocol that the Zip drive uses,
however, so I'm not quite sure what's going wrong.
