[PARPORT] Red Hat 6.1 on Thinkpad 600 does not find /dev/lp0?

I run Red Hat 6.1 on a Thinkpad 600.

I tried to configure a local printer connected to the parallel port. It
does not find the device. dmesg says:

lp: driver loaded but no devices found

Any ideas what I need to configure?
