OK, thanks. That would have been easier; I made it work by recompiling the
kernel and adding parport_pc etc. I alse installed the latest version of
PPA.

PS. To get my HP deskjet 722 printer to work I also had to install pbm2ppa
(the other ppa package :-) and rewrite some of the rhs filters.
