[PARPORT] scanner question

I have a parallel scanner.
It is a ImageWave model 600E.
The book that came with it has nothing regarding specs.
I have no idea what the thing emulates.
It is connected to a second parallel port.
I do not know if the sys recognizes the port or not.
I do not know how to check that.

Any help getting this scanner to work will be appreciated.
