The result of the 'lspci -v' gives me the following about my PCI-parallel
port card:
00:0e.0 Parallel controller: Lava Computer mfg Inc: Unknown device 8800
(prog-if 01)
        Flags: slow devsel, IRQ 9
        I/O ports at d020

Do you think I need to upgrade to 2.2.14 ?

This card might be supported with kernel 2.2.14, depending on exactly
which card it is. What are the vendor and product IDs? It will tell
you in the output of 'lspci -vv' if you have pci-utils installed.
