Be aware that although the 2.2 kernel uses the ECP hardware to detect
and report things like the IRQ and DMA channel, it doesn't use it for
transfers.

2.0 didn't use the ECP hardware at all.
If you're looking to do data transfers to the printer using ECP mode,
you'll need to use 2.4 really (and a small kernel hack or custom print
filter).
