    Hello,

I have pretty much the same problem, but I don't get it resolved by
compiling the latest alpha version of cdrecord on my system.
    I use RedHat 7.0 with kernel 2.4.0 test11

    I'm doing...

    [root@localhost /root]# modprobe paride
    [root@localhost /root]# modprobe epat
    [root@localhost /root]# modprobe pg
    [root@localhost /root]# modprobe -r pg
    [root@localhost /root]# modprobe pg verbose=1 drive0=0x378,0,0,-1,-1,0

    The output of that is:

    paride: version 1.05 installed
paride: epat registered as protocol 0
pg: pg version 1.02, major 97
    pg0: Sharing parport0 at 0x378
    pg0: epat 1.01, Shuttle EPAT chip c6 at 0x378, mode 5 (EPP-32), delay 1
    pg0: HP CD-Writer+ 7100, slave
Trying to free nonexistent resource <00000378-0000037f>
pg: pg version 1.02, major 97
    pg0: 0x378 is parport0
    pg0: epat: port 0x378, mode 0, ccr 0, test=(255,0,0)
    pg0: epat: port 0x378, mode 1, ccr 40, test=(255,224,448)
    pg0: epat: port 0x378, mode 2, ccr 0, test=(255,0,0)
    pg0: epat: port 0x378, mode 3, ccr 0, test=(255,0,0)
    pg0: epat: port 0x378, mode 4, ccr 0, test=(255,0,0)
    pg0: epat: port 0x378, mode 5, ccr 0, test=(255,0,0)
    pg0: Sharing parport0 at 0x378
    pg0: epat 1.01, Shuttle EPAT chip c6 at 0x378, mode 5 (EPP-32), delay 0
pg0: Reset (1001) signature = ff ff ff ff ff (incorrect)
    pg0: Reset (204) signature = 1 1 1 14 eb
    pg0: HP CD-Writer+ 7100, slave

And when I try to talk to the device, that's what cdrecord does to me:

    [root@localhost bin]# ./cdrecord -v -V -scanbus
    Cdrecord 1.10a08 (i586-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2000 Jörg
    Schilling
    TOC Type: 1 = CD-ROM
    Using libscg version 'schily-0.4'
    scsibus0:

Executing 'test unit ready' command on Bus 0 Target 0, Lun 0 timeout 40s
    CDB: 00 00 00 00 00 00
./cdrecord: Unpassender IOCTL (I/O-Control) fuer das Geraet. Cannot send
    SCSI cmd via ioctl

While executing the "modprobe pg", both times I can hear the drive
initialising (the same sound that it does when WinNT is booting up). I have set my
parallel port to EPP in the bios.
I'm somewhat out of ideas, now. Does anybody have one?

    Thank you,

    Thiemo Nagel
