    I remember having seen a similar problem when trying to use a parallel port ZIP-drive.
    Indeed, I had used this arrangement for months before without problems - so I was
    sure that the software was all in a well-configured state.
    The reason was obscure, but the solution easy:
    I changed the configuration of the parallel port to another (invalid) mode and then back
    again. Voila: everything worked fine after that...
    Thus, I agree: could be a malconfigured parallel port.
    Be encouraged: try silly actions...

    This is a buffer underrun - most likely caysed by a misconfigured
