    They used /proc/parport/X/hardware, I think. Perhaps they used
    /proc/sys/dev/parport as a fall back.

    A much better patch would be one that optionally provides a
    backwards-compatible /proc/parport directory, just like before
    (similar to the way /proc/pci is done).
