    This is just a simple tip, not a complete solution.

    First, take a look in the /dev directory to see if there have been any symlinks created to the /dev/pd/disc0/part1 device file. It can be that it is not called /dev/pda1.

    Second, if there was no symlink in /dev, you might want to have a look at the devfsd configuration. It looks as if you are running the devfs system to maintain device files in /dev.
    You can have the devfsd daemon create symlinks in /dev for various devices that is detected on the system.

    man devfsd.conf can be a start
