I'm hoping someone can help me to diagnose and fix a problem I'm having
loading the pd module to control an external hard drive. I get

    bib:~# modprobe pd
/lib/modules/2.2.20/misc/pd.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including
    invalid IO or IRQ parameters
    /lib/modules/2.2.20/misc/pd.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.2.20/misc/pd.o failed
    /lib/modules/2.2.20/misc/pd.o: insmod pd failed

Thanks go to the folks in <debian-uk@chiark.greenend.org.uk> for
helping me to work out that the following information might be
    relevant:

The dmesg content related to this is:

    pda: on26: port 0x26c, mode 1, test=(255,255)
    pda: Autoprobe failed
    pd: no valid drive found

    Neither <fuser /dev/par0> nor <lsof | grep 'par0'> produces any
    output.

The same happens whether or not the lp and parport_pc modules are
    loaded.

    Thanks very much
