Jeesh do I feel stupid! I was not in root. I can run modprobe but get
    the following:

    paride: version 1.04 installed
pcd: pcd version 1.07, major 46, nice 0
    pcd0: Autoprobe failed
    pcd: No CD-ROM drive found
    /lib modules/2.2.6/misc/pcd.o: init_module: Device or resource busy

Hmmm, what device or resource would be busy? And how do I get it to take
    a break? :-)

Mythology may, in a real sense, be defined as other people's religion.
And religion may, in a real sense, be understood as a popular
    misunderstanding of mythology.
