Doesn't seem to make a difference, an example is the mouse being very jumpy, in
X or at a console (gpm).

Those messages, if I am right, probably kernel messages, complaining about a
read error, and it locked the computer to the point that the keyboard input
stopped working.

The same happens in 2.1 or 2.0 kernels, I am using 2.0 right now. It looked
like an IRQ was slowing the machine, so in 2.1 I didn't specify an IRQ, but it
still persisted.

I am using kernel 2.0.34 w/paride 0.94 & 2.1.103 with built in paride support.
My motherboard is a Giga-Byte 586-ATM/P (430FX) the parallel port is at
0x278/IRQ5 it still happens if I specify another pp address/IRQ.

The difference between genius and stupidity
