You didn't tell us that you had epat and pd built in to your kernel, but
no epat device connected :-)
The epat driver _shouldn't_ make a mess of your printer, but you can
try booting with pd.disable=1 on the boot command. Ie:
boot: linux pd.disable=1
If this fixes the problem, then we need to find out why your printer is
reacting to the epat probe. (Parts of which are identical to the
IEEE probe).
