Well...

boot: linux pd.disable=1

That didn't work... the printer still spewed garbage on boot... so i
followed Andrea's suggestion... compiling lp support as a module... so now
the printer is silent at boot up...

The PARIDE drivers i also compiled as modules... but the PARPORT driver i
compiled into the kernel... funny thing was... that if i tried to select
Parallel Port Support as a module... in menuconfig... then the "Parallel
Printer Support" option would not show up in the Character Devices
sub-menu... so that's why i compiled "Parallel Port Support" into the
kernel..

This was using the ac2 patch by Alan Cox... for the 2.1.108 kernel..

It would still be nice to know why... when Parallel Printer Support was
compiled into the kernel... the printer would print garbage on boot..

Pat.
