The Ratta Supernote<\/a> e-ink devices are fantastic. You can write on them with a stylus and it feels very similar to writing on paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I developed a framework to capture thoughts and ideas, connected in both a tree<\/em> and a network<\/em>, on my Supernote using a method based on Zettelkasten<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On a Supernote you can turn handwriting into headings so they show up in the table of contents in your notebook, but only four levels of heading. My framework allows you to nest as deeply as you like by combining a set of templates with stickers. It means you can see where you are in the tree from the overview thumbnails, which makes page insertion fast even for deeply nested trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This framework has solutions for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Making each note uniquely identified and addressable, without the need for complex numbering systems or timestamps<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Having a main tree of ideas with as may nested levels as you want<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Easily reading off the depth within the tree, even from the pages overview<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Extending the tree to a network of ideas, linking any note to any other note<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Finding the right place to insert new notes quickly<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Storing and referencing bibliographic details<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Visualising the network of ideas with mind maps which “zoom in”<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Making it easy for an LLM\/AI assistant to make sense of all your notes from a native text export<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
