First, the only software that I know to work with pg is cdrecord 1.6.1 or
later. "I cannot get" is not really a useful bug report. If you are using
cdrecord and it fails to detect the drive, please follow the instructions
documented in Documentation/paride.txt or on the paride web page and send
me some error messages.

You don't need any of that if you just want to use pg.

This is actually the first report of any kind that I've seen about the
audio play functions. Was any sort of error logged about this ?
