Hmm. Presumably you carried on the install without setting up a printer?
What happens when you do this?:
# insmod lp
# dmesg | tail
What messages show up? If it says, something about "driver loaded but no
devices found", take a look at your BIOS setup screen. Hunt around for an
option to set the base address of the parallel port, and see what it's set
to.
