[PARPORT] Zip-100 access

Hi !

I recently upgraded RH5.2 from kernel-2.0.36 to kernel- 2.2.6, all has
gone well and it appears that everything that I need here, is working
except I cannot access my Zip-100 (parallel port drive).

Autoloading of modules by the kernel through kmod has not been enabled.
The new kernel and modules rebuild and compile without hitches.

I load /sbin/depmod -a in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules

Then I load /sbin/insmod /lib/modules/2.2.6/misc/parport.o

The above load instruction seems to work somehow as it opens an empty
parport directory under /proc ie. /proc/parport
this new /proc/parport directory is however empty with no other
subdirectories or entries under /proc/parport

Thereafter I load /sbin/insmod
/lib/modules/2.2.6/misc/parport_pc.o io=0x3bc,0x378/0x278
irq=none,7,auto

and get the following message init module: Device or resource busy

This cannot be as I even get this when nothing is connected to the
parallel port.

When I then do a cat /proc/ioports I find that none of the ports
0x3bc 0x378 0x278 are in use
When I then do a cat /proc/interrupts I again find that none of usual
parallel port interrupts are in use ie irq 5 and irq 7 is free.

In spite of this I still get the Device or resource busy message, which

means I cannot access approximately twenty of my Zip-100
diskettes full of data and utilities urgently needed by me in this
remote land. These are all formatted ext2 so accessing the data on the

disks is also not possible under windoze.

In the meantime I applied patch-2.2.6-tmw6.gz , module parport_pc.o is
now loading but when I now load ppa.o I get the
message:

/lib/modules/2.2.6/scsi/ppa.o : init_module : Device or resource busy

Below is the dmesg output

It would be appreciated if somebody out there can provide some help.
