The implementation isn't perfect. ;-) But yes, it should work off a
soft-copy instead. I haven't done this yet, but it does need to be done.

Note that a soft-copy of the ECR (the other register for which a frob
function is provided) is never needed, as it must be readable in every
implementation (serviceIntr doesn't make any sense otherwise).
