Also, note that the lines

Floppy drive(s): fd0 is 1.44M
FDC 0 is a National Semiconductor PC87306

in the dmesg have nothing to do with any existing floppy drive, I
believe they are from the BIOS and the interface. My laptop prints
these two lines even with no floppy drive in the bay (i.e., two
batteries in the system).
