What timed out ? Did you get a timeout error from pg or from cdrecord ?
If cdrecord - this is the wrong place to ask.

Not sure what the relevance of that message is meant to be - it's a report
that your IDE CD-ROM can't eject a disk because the door is locked :-)
It has nothing to do with playing audio, nor with the parallel port burner.
