Are you _sure_ that you have that line? Do you have an /etc/modules.conf
file?
Does 'cat -v /etc/conf.modules' show any funny characters in that line?
It doesn't look like the parport_lowlevel alias is getting picked up. You
can check with modprobe -c | grep parport.
