hi everyone,
and thanks tim and mohan.
ok that command brought up a load of files, and for each one, this was the
result:
aci.o: ELF 32-bit LSB relocatable, Intel 80386, version 1, not
stripped
with the filename changing.
except...
parport: ASCII text
parport.o: ELF 32-bit LSB relocatable, Intel 80386, version 1, not
stripped
parport0: ASCII text
parport_pc: ASCII text
parport_pc.o: ELF 32-bit LSB relocatable, Intel 80386, version 1, not
stripped
ok! that looks like a problem has been found.
now let me tell you something that im finding weird, and that i should have
remembered to say when i first posted the problem. that is that when i
recompiled the kernal, i set the parport to be not a module, but to be
loaded all the time. (as i thought this might help)
this might explain the lack of modules as surely the modules not needed
will not be compiles when you make modules. but then why was it trying to
load the modules in the first place...
i hope this means that i havent wasted your time.
should i recompile without support for parport and do it with modules instead?
thanks again, matt
