    Was able to print from RH5.1 on a ThinkPad 600 before the
    upgrade. Machine is a dual-boot with Windows 95. Printing works fine from
    Win95. Printing to an HP Deskjet 1600cm. Printers were setup using
    printtool to lp0. When I tried priniting directly to port, the resulting
    message was: "Unable to find devices on lp0, lp1, lp3". Using lpr
    just sends the job to the queue. I've also added the following to the
    /etc/conf.modules file:

    alias /dev/printers lp # only for devfs?
    alias /dev/lp* lp # only for devfs?
    alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc # missing in Red Hat 6.0-6.1

    Below are outputs from dmesg and lsmod:

    dmesg:

    Can you pinpoint the problem or provide a plan of attack?

    Thanks;
