"When somebody asks you to go by the book, you should ask yourself: what
book?"
--Laurie Andersen
Hello everybody. My scanner is a Scanport parallel port scanner, and
from the windoze driver I know that its Microtek compatible. At least,
the w95/98 driver is made by Microtek, under name and version "Scanport
2.50".
After patching my 2.2.16 kernel and compiling the appropriate ppscsi.o
and onscsi.o drivers, I know that it should be Microtek compatible
because the 90c26 chip is detected. On a verbose=3 level, onscsi can
also read the name of the scanner, as 330 CDS V.1.34 . Such a thing
would not happen if I plugged my toaster to the parallel port (assuming
the toaster had a parallel port) so this piece of hardware has some
probability of working under sane.
Both the scanner and the parallel port (which is EPP and EPP-32 capable,
according to BIOS) pass the tests made by onscsi (I am reproducing here
the dmesg with verbose=2 so I don't bore you with a large output) and I
still can't access the scanner with sane backend 1.0.4.
I initially thought it was a conflict with my CD writer (which is an
Atapi emulated as a SCSI device through sr_mod & ide-scsi) but I still
cannot access the scanner if I disable sr_mod.o and ide-scsi.
I think I have gone by the book. First, scsi_mod, then sg, then parport,
parport_pc, ppscsi, onscsi. Can anybody tell me what am I doing wrong?
If there is no driver for the scanner, I might go on and write one (with
a little help from you, my friends, of course! =)
Thanks,
Manuel Molano
