    Do;

    #insmod parport
    in the beginning.
Do not use cdrecord 1.9, use 1.8 instead. 1.9 doesn't work for my
    HP7200e for some reason.
If you bios is in eep mode you should be able see your device in cdrecord
    -scanbus.

Subject: [PARPORT] More HP-7200e problems :-(

    Hi Folks

    Have recently got an HP-7200 external CD-RW drive...and can't
get it to work! I have read all the archives of this list...but
none seem to be having the kind of problem which I face.

I have an AMD-K6-500 running RH 7.0. I have an internal Creative
CD-ROM drive also. I have NO SCSI controllers/devices.

I started with the usual setup, loading paride, epat and pg.
    got the following dmesg output
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    [root@gh-1194 /root]# insmod paride
    Using /lib/modules/2.2.16-22/misc/paride.o
    paride: version 1.04 installed
    [root@gh-1194 /root]# insmod epat
    Using /lib/modules/2.2.16-22/misc/epat.o
paride: epat registered as protocol 0
    [root@gh-1194 /root]# insmod pg
    Using /lib/modules/2.2.16-22/misc/pg.o
pg: pg version 1.02, major 97
    pg0: Sharing parport0 at 0x378
    pg0: epat 1.01, Shuttle EPAT chip c6 at 0x378, mode 5 (EPP-32), delay 1
    pg0: HP CD-Writer+ 7200, slave
    [root@gh-1194 /root]#
    ----------------------------------------------------------------

So far so good? Then cdrecord -scanbus still does not help.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    [root@gh-1194 /root]# cdrecord -scanbus
    Cdrecord 1.9 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2000 Jrg Schilling
    Using libscg version 'schily-0.1'
    scsibus0:
cdrecord: Inappropriate ioctl for device. Cannot send SCSI cmd via ioctl
    ----------------------------------------------------------------

So I load the ide-scsi module.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    [root@gh-1194 /root]# insmod ide-scsi
    Using /lib/modules/2.2.16-22/scsi/ide-scsi.o
scsi0 : SCSI host adapter emulation for IDE ATAPI devices
    scsi : 1 host.
Vendor: CREATIVE Model: CD5233E Rev: 1.00
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
    Detected scsi CD-ROM sr0 at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
    sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 0x/52x cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that there is no mention of the CD-RW here. But cdrecord -scanbus
    seems to work!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    [root@gh-1194 /root]# cdrecord -scanbus
    Cdrecord 1.9 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2000 Jrg Schilling
    Linux sg driver version: 2.1.38
    Using libscg version 'schily-0.1'
    scsibus0:

            1,6,0 106) *
            1,7,0 107) *
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

But try running cdrecord...and see what happens

    ------------------------------------------------------------------
    [root@gh-1194 /root]# cdrecord -dev=1,0,0 -inq
    Cdrecord 1.9 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2000 Jrg Schilling

    Using libscg version 'schily-0.1'
cdrecord: Inappropriate ioctl for device. Cannot send SCSI cmd via ioctl
    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Am I missing something...forgot to load some module, maybe?
    Please assist me.

    Regards
    Raj
