    I'm not an expert
    the solution could be
    1.)
    /etc/modules.conf ( SuSE 6.3 /etc/conf.modules)
    change
    alias scsi_hostadapter off
    to
    alias scsi_hostadapter ide-scsi

    2.)
    If you use LILO:
    in lilo.conf
    initrd = /boot/initrd
    append "hdX=ide-scsi hdY=ide-scsi hdZ......."

    2a.) other ways ?
    to load modules into ramdisk with rc.config e.g.
         INITRD_MODULES="aic7xxx ide-scsi"
         mk_initrd
    with loadlin ... hdX=ide-scsi initrd=c:\loadlin\initdisk
