    This is the exact error message I get when trying to mkfs.ext2 /dev/pda1

    Writing inode table: 13/149
    PDA: do_pd_write_irq: status = 0x10050 = SEEK READY TMO

    Then the machine is quite locked. Is there something I should change in
    the
    bios, or is this expected with such a large drive?
