    I wish it was the easy way (datasheet) but alas Horatio I'm a bugger for

    Okay. Tell me, do you happen to have a datasheet for this device, or
    is this work based on reverse engineering? I have a strong suspicion
    that it has peculiar timing requirements.

    If you can figure out which IEEE 1284 event isn't happening, that
    would be a good next step.
