After re-reading past data I've decided to go back to ECP mode. As the
kernel boots up I notice the following in the logs:
Apr 21 20:47:57 localhost kernel: 0x378: FIFO is 16 bytes
Apr 21 20:47:57 localhost kernel: 0x378: writeIntrThreshold is 16
Apr 21 20:47:57 localhost kernel: 0x378: readIntrThreshold is 16
Apr 21 20:47:57 localhost kernel: 0x378: PWord is 8 bits
Apr 21 20:47:57 localhost kernel: 0x378: Interrupts are ISA-Pulses

Apr 21 20:47:57 localhost kernel: parport0: cpp_daisy: aa5500ff(80)
Apr 21 20:47:57 localhost kernel: parport0: assign_addrs: aa5500ff(80)
Apr 21 20:47:57 localhost kernel: parport0: In mode 0x04
Apr 21 20:47:57 localhost kernel: parport0: Using nibble mode
Apr 21 20:47:57 localhost last message repeated 2 times
Apr 21 20:47:57 localhost kernel: parport0: device reported incorrect
length field (105, should be 107)
Apr 21 20:47:57 localhost kernel: parport0: In compatibility (forwardidle)
mode
Apr 21 20:47:57 localhost kernel: parport0: Multimedia device, Connectix
QuickCam VC
What does the line "Using nibble mode" mean? is this part of the
compatibility mode or something??? I'm not entirely clear on that...
