I'm running RedHat 7.0 on a ThinkPad, installed
ghostscript 6.50, and trying to get a Lexmark Z32 to
work with it.
Let me preface this by saying I have been using
linux/other forms of unix for years, but this is my
first crack at administering my own machine, so I'm
more than a little bit clueless... I beg for your
patience.
I found the driver at lexmark's web site and
downloaded it; saw it was parallel-port only and dug
out a cable from the abyss to use (the win98 half of
the machine was happy with usb).
So I try
rpm -U --force lexmarkz32-1.0-1.i386.rpm
and a window pops up asking me to verify the print
cartridge settings... so far so good.
Click ok, get another window telling me I've
successfully installed the software, "continue" to
print a test page.
Only no test page prints, and I get the following
messages:
Status Information:
sending job 'root@localhost+775' to
z32-outfiles@localhost
connecting to 'localhost', attempt 1
connected to 'localhost'
requesting printer z32-outfiles@localhost
job 'root@localhost+775' transfer to
z32-outfiles@localhost failed
error 'NONZERO RFC1179 ERROR CODE FROM SERVER' with
ack 'ACK_FAIL'
sending str '^Bz32-outfiles' to
z32-outfiles@localhost
error msg: 'spool queue for 'z32-outfiles' does not
exist on server localhost.localdomain'
error msg: ' non-existent printer or you need to
run 'checkpc -f''
Am I doing something really obvious wrong?
Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
Michelle
