    You seem to be more lucly than me, here's my dmesg with the same
    procedure:
     parport0: PC-style at 0x378 [SPP]
     parport1: PC-style at 0x278 [SPP,PS2,EPP]
     parport0: no IEEE-1284 device present.
     parport1: no IEEE-1284 device present.

    my scanner is on parport1

    In my case, the parallel port returns the same values on the
    two physical parallel port, even if there is device plug on it.
