    Hi all,

I have a Compaq LTE 5380 laptop with an external CD-ROM player
(Goldstar CRD-8161B(CP1)), but I can't get it to work well.
Loading paride, epat and pcd goes fine, and I can also mount the CD,
and read some of the files. But many times I get I/O errors...
Trying to install Suse 7.1 I got the following output on the log screan:

    paride: version 1.04 installed
    parport0: PC-style at 0x378 (0x778) [SPP,ECP,ECPPS2]
parport0: detected irq 7; use procfs to enable interrupt-driven operation.
parport0: Unspecified, Unknown vendor Unknown device
paride: epat registered as protocol 0
pcd: pcd version 1.07, major 46, nice 0
    pcd0: Sharing parpot0 at 0x378
    pcd0: epat 1.01, Shuttle EPAT chip c6 at 0x378, mode 0 (4-bit), delay 1
    pcd0: Master: CRD-8161B (CPQ)
    pcd0: mode sense capabilities completion: alt=0x51 stat=0x51 err=0x60
    loop=61111 phase =3
pcd0: mode sense capabilities: Sense key: 6, ASC: 29, ASQ: 0
    Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.11

Then it mounts the CD-ROM with success, and the logging resumes as follows:

    pcd0: read block completion: alt=0x7f stat=0xff err=0xff loop=83 phase=255
    pcd0: read block completion: alt=0x51 stat=0x51 err=0x60 loop=0 phase=3
    pcd0: read block completion: alt=0x51 stat=0x51 err=0x60 loop=0 phase=3
    pcd0: read block completion: alt=0x7f stat=0xff err=0xff loop=228 phase=255
    pcd0: read block completion: alt=0x51 stat=0x51 err=0x60 loop=0 phase=3
    pcd0: read block completion: alt=0x51 stat=0x51 err=0x60 loop=0 phase=3
    pcd0: read block completion: alt=0x7f stat=0xff err=0xff loop=631 phase=255
    pcd0: read block completion: alt=0x51 stat=0x51 err=0x60 loop=0 phase=3
    pcd0: read block completion: alt=0x51 stat=0x51 err=0x60 loop=0 phase=3
    etc.

and the installation stops because of an error (no details are mentioned).

I used to have RedHat 6.0 installed on this laptop, and I had
problems to read some files while I was ables to read others from a
    CD.
I experimented with the delay (1,2,4,8,16) but that didn't help, and
with different modes, but only mode 0 is accepted.

Can someone tell me what to do?
The Suse installer asks for parameters for both epat and pcd,
probably I have to provide something here?

    Any help is appreciated!!!
    Cheers

    Mark Pors
