    Hi,

I've just purchased a Backpack CDRewriter, but I can't get it to write
    to a CD-RW (haven't tried CD-ROM yet).

    I have:

      Redhat 7.3
      Linux kernel 2.4.18
      cdrecord 1.11 (also tried 1.10)
      Backpack model 195200

Here's the syslog output from modprobe's of paride, bpck6 and pg:

May 18 00:11:55 gar kernel: paride: version 1.06 installed (parport)
May 18 00:11:58 gar kernel: bpck6: BACKPACK Protocol Driver V2.0.2
May 18 00:11:58 gar kernel: bpck6: Copyright 2001 by Micro Solutions,
    Inc., DeKalb IL. USA
May 18 00:11:58 gar kernel: paride: bpck6 registered as protocol 0
May 18 00:12:02 gar kernel: pg: pg version 1.02, major 97
    May 18 00:12:02 gar kernel: pg0: Sharing parport0 at 0x378
May 18 00:12:02 gar kernel: pg0: BACKPACK Protocol Driver V2.0.2
May 18 00:12:02 gar kernel: pg0: Copyright 2001 by Micro Solutions,
    Inc., DeKalb IL.
May 18 00:12:02 gar kernel: pg0: BACKPACK 2.0.2, Micro Solutions

    May 18 00:12:02 gar kernel: pg0: Unit: 83 Mode:4 (EPP-32) Delay 0
    May 18 00:12:02 gar kernel: pg0: MITSUMI CR-48XATE, master

Here's the output from "cdrecord -scanbus":

    Cdrecord 1.11a23 (i586-mandrake-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2002 Jörg
    Schilling
    Using libscg version 'schily-0.6'
    scsibus0:

            0,2,0 2) *
            0,3,0 3) *

            0,5,0 5) *
            0,6,0 6) *
            0,7,0 7) *

And here's the output from cdrecord when I try to "quick erase" a CD-RW:

    Cdrecord 1.11a23 (i586-mandrake-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2002 Jörg

    Device type : Removable CD-ROM

    Response Format: 1

Device seems to be: Philips CDD-522.

Last chance to quit, starting real write in 0 seconds. Operation starts.
cdrecord: Input/output error. blank unit: scsi sendcmd: no error

    Fru 0x0
Sense flags: Blk 0 (not valid)
cmd finished after 0.003s timeout 9600s
    cdrecord: Cannot blank disk, aborting.

I tried changing the delay to 1, but the problem remained.

I'm guessing that this drive is not compatible :(

    Any ideas?

    Thanks, Greg.
