I'm working on a driver that should allow the cd writing tools to
use the CD-R part of these drives. I don't believe anyone has done
anything with "packet writing" for Linux yet. That's what you need to
put an R/W filesystem on a CD-RW disk. I suspect that that's a much
larger project ...

I have documentation that should allow me to add ECP support to the
'epat' protocol module - that's what the HP 7100e uses, for instance.
But, that's probably a little way off yet. (With ECP, I can't fall back
on i/o tracing when the documentation is ambiguous.)

I suspect that the SparQ users here might recommend that product for your
needs - it too uses the EPAT adapter, but you get 1 GB with inexpensive
media - definitely competitive with CD-RW at this stage.
