Why did you change the speed without doing a -dummy test first ?

The problem is that you have either an old SPP port or a modern port set
to ECP mode. Check your CMOS settings and set the port into EPP mode.
You can burn CDs at 1x in the SPP modes (0-2) but for 2x burning you need
an EPP mode (3-5).
