[PARPORT] at boot... printer goes crazy

I have two linux systems... both are RedHat-5.1... with a linux-2.1.108
kernel... this is the problem... when i have a printer attached to the
system... on boot up... with one of the boxes attached to the printer...
the printer will start to print page after page of garbage characters...
on the first line... with the other linux system... the data light on the
printer will just come on... and sit there like that... and no data can
be printed to the printer until it's turned off... and turned back on
again...

The printer in question is a Canon LBP4-sx... but i doubt it is a printer
problem... because there were no problems with the 2.0.34 and older
kernels... this problem with the printer starting up like this has been
present for the past few development kernel versions...

Both linux systems have different motherboards... one with an Award
Bios... and one with an AMI Bios..
