Grant,
Hi! I took the time to reformat my Sparq cart in DOS and copied
the wp8tar.gz file (all 35 megs) to the newly formatted Sparq cartridge.
The cart showed now errors when tested and the wp8tar.gz file 'comp'ared
perfectly with the source it was copied from to the cart. I took the
added precaution of doing a 'crc' in dos and the values returned for the
copy on the cart and the original were the same.

I conclude from this that it is unlikely there is a hardware problem, per
se, or an electronics or cable problem, per se.

I then returned to my linux 2.0.34 environment and reformatted the cart
to a native linux partition & format. I had already installed the
paride-patch when I previously recompiled the 2.0.34 kernel. Everything
went fine until I once again attempted to copy the wp8tar.gz file to
the Sparq. Again I got the errors I've complained about.

However, this time I had the presence of mind to try the cmp -l option.
It returned the following results:

ufo:/mnt/sparqp# cmp -l wp8tar.gz /mnt/hdb6/wp8/wp8tar.gz

I'm thinking the first field represents the byte offset, but I'm not
certain what the next two fields represent, although I notice a lot of
7's. Any clues in there?

Another idea I have is to set up a temporary account for you on my linux
box so you can take a look-see for yourself in order to hopefully notice
anything that looks awry. Are you ever on the IRC? I could meet you
there or possibly call you by phone. Where are you located anyway?

Thanks.

More later.
