Linux and the MicroSolutions backpack CDrom
There are two versions of MicroSolutions' backpack CD-ROM. Model numbers 163550 and later are ATAPI drives and as such are supported by the PARIDE drivers. Earlier drives were based on Mitsumi FX drives, which used a propietary protocol and command set. I have built a driver for the 160550 and 162550 drives which works with the drives that I have tested, though perhaps not all. It is currently available for Linux version 2.0 kernels only. If you have an early backpack drive and want to try out this special driver, fetch the source code and try it out.
