I saw the excellent film of this first, and immediately wanted to read the book. I hoped I could still get the same amazement from it, already knowing the secrets behind the magic from the film. It’s written very well, and it is an absolutely marvellous story.
Sue asked me what the opposite of it’s all downhill from here is. Using uphill instead of downhill doesn’t seem to improve matters, and makes it sound more like an uphill struggle.
Actually I think there’s another saying like that that’s more… flat (but I can’t remember what that is).
Why would I rush out and buy an iPhone when the mobile phone I already have still works perfectly well? Granted, it’s at least eight years old — but that’s a good thing. It must be reliable! This phone has seen many of my friends’ phones come and go, often breaking down in one way or another within a year or two.
The only reason for me to upgrade this phone is to get one that works abroad…
Finally finished watching the BBC production of Bleak House, which came on three DVDs. I’m always surprised when I enjoy a Dickens story, probably because I got put off ‘the classics’ when I was at school. So I definitely enjoyed this a lot more than I expected to, and some of the characters are still in my head.
