I was told recently that the bright light in the sky low to the horizon in the North is a supernova. It certainly is bright, and might be mistaken for an aircraft if it were moving — but I haven’t found any confirmation of it anywhere. I’m starting to think it’s Venus after all. Have I been fed a pack of lies?

At what time? And where?… I do not know of any visible super-novae currently… but what it is will need to be figured out of when and where to the north you are seeing (north-east/north-west)
I’m going to see if I can spot it again tonight and use Stellarium (which I only discovered yesterday!) to figure out what it is.
I have seen something that looks like a supernova and have been under the impression that it is… I believe it was near jupiter in the sky.. under and to the right I think?? could be wrong.. i found it by looking right as it gets dark and it extremely visible… it and jupiter were the only 2 stars visible to me many times. I’ll figure out what direction and where it’s located sometime.
Yes..I saw it too when i was away from home. It was the 10th of July. It looked like it was a bit blue in colour, it was faint, just next to jupiter. At first I thought it was some kind of reflection, but soon I realise that the blue light did not fade away,…it was just there….however I couldn’t see it when I got home….
That was Venus and Saturn, at 9pm Eastern at 9pm,
Saturn is due west near Regulus (Leo), Venus
would be lower, and slightly north of West
near Gemini (Castor and Pollux would be nearby)
Under and right of Jupiter is Antares (the only other
really bright object near Jupiter then)
( I know it’s November now, I plugged June 5th 2007
into the java sky chart at sky and telescope’s web page)

I saw a supernova by eye on monday 9;00 p.m feb. 11, 2008. I call nasa , no help there. It was crazy. I was looking South to fl. I live in H.H.I s.c. on the coast.
It was a large white ball. If you held a post card in front of you it was that big in the sky. then it turn black. unreal.
IT WAS DEEP IN SPACE!!!!!!!!!
I believe you’ve been taken for a fool… According to space.com, no supernova has been visible from Earth since 1604.
