GPL Ghostscript 8.60 snapshot in Fedora devel
I’ve built a snapshot of the new GPL Ghostscript in Fedora devel, due to popular demand. It’s a snapshot from the ghostscript.com SVN repository. Hopefully it will fix a lot of the problems that the ESP branch was stuck with.

HPLIP 2.7.6 packaged
Last week I packaged a new major version of HPLIP for Fedora. One of the biggest changes is that it no longer requires daemons running in the background (i.e. the “hplip” service, being hpiod and hpssd) for its functionality. At long last!

“New Printer” bubbles: working (almost)
I just built hal-cups-utils-0.6.11-2.fc8 which finishes off the “new printer” notifications. It’s all working, except for bugs in other packages: libnotify isn’t telling me when the user has clicked the “Configure” button (this bug is driving me mad trying to chase it down) SELinux is now preventing HPLIP from probing for attached printers, so we…

Unhooking the foomatic parser
There is now a proper PPDs class in the printer admin tool, capable of indexing the PPDs that CUPS returns in a variety of useful ways. This means system-config-printer no longer needs to parse the foomatic XML database when looking for a printer driver, starting from version 0.7.67.
