Hi,

My server is 486/33, printer HP4/10MB, starndart lpt port:
base: 0x378
irq: none
dma: none
modes: SPP

With kernels from 2.2.1 up to 2.2.6-ac2 I observe 1 to 3 lookups per week
(printer load is up to 40 multipages printouts per day).
Messages in /var/log/kernel are sequences like:
 kernel: lp0 out of paper
 kernel: lp0 off-line

I dont know 'out of paper' are real messages because server is in another
bulding. Users reported problems via phone.

To solve problem I have to kill lpd, rmmod modules and restart lpd.
I don't see difference loading modules manually or via kerneld.

With kernels 2.0.x I never had problems with printing.
