I've started (very slowly) to merge stuff from the tmw tree into 2.3.
I'll send Linus some of the smaller bits and leave the interface change
until last, if I can.
The latest patch I have for 2.3 is patch-2.2.3-tmw3, and the interface now
looks quite similar to the one we want. I'm also keeping a patch relative
to 2.2.9, primarily for lp-console in case it comes in handy.
