There hasn't been a paper nor a offline problem at that time for sure.
The printer is a HP720C. I do use the pbm2ppa-conversion in order to print on
that GDI-printer.

Yes, it worked well with a 2.0.36-kernel. There has been no problem with kernel
2.2.7 as well. After detecting the problems in using kernel 2.2.8 I decided to
do a downgrade to kernel 2.2.7. After that step problems were gone again.

As an other solution I tried an temporarily upgrade to kernel 2.2.9 but there
was no effect (same problem as in 2.2.8). This wasn't astonishing to me because
2.2.9 didn't address anything concerning parport and lp.
