The reason is that the SCSI disk driver (sd_mod) requests a SCSI
interface to be loaded (ppa) if no SCSI interface has previously
loaded (or something like that). This is something for the linux-scsi
mailing list (linux-scsi@vger.rutgers.edu from memory).
