Hello, All!

Iīve trouble connecting a 2nd printer on my machine.
Hardware: 1st parallel port is onboard,2nd port as ISA card (serial
lines disabled).
1st printer HP Laserjet IIP Plus, 2nd is HP Deskjet 710C.
Printers are working fine under Windows with:
1) 0x3BC, IRQ 7 as LPT1:
2) 0x278 as LPT2:

Linux Version is 2.2.5

Output of "dmesg" tells me nothing about recognized printer ports, also
"lsmod" shows me that the "parport" module or "lp" is not loaded.

After "insmod lp" display of:

>Using /lib/modules/2.2.5/misc/lp.o
>/lib/modules/2.2.5/misc/lp.o: unresolved symbol parport_ieee1284_nibble_mode_ok
>/lib/modules/2.2.5/misc/lp.o: unresolved symbol parport_unregister_device
>/lib/modules/2.2.5/misc/lp.o: unresolved symbol parport_enumerate
>/lib/modules/2.2.5/misc/lp.o: unresolved symbol parport_claim_or_block
>/lib/modules/2.2.5/misc/lp.o: unresolved symbol parport_register_device
>/lib/modules/2.2.5/misc/lp.o: unresolved symbol parport_wait_peripheral
>/lib/modules/2.2.5/misc/lp.o: unresolved symbol parport_release

but "insmod parport" is working fine.

Typing of "cat /etc/printcap > /dev/lp0" makes the formfeed lamp of the
laserjet lighting for about 2 seconds, thatīs all.

Remark: Before installing a 2nd parallel card I had only the HPLJ on
/dev/lp0, and it had been working fine (IO 0x378, IRQ 7). To make the
two ports working I had to modify the IO address in the BIOS to 0x3BC.
In Windows itīs working still fine, but in LINUX nothing.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks,
Joerg

Here are some extracts of my configuration files (only lines concerning
the parallel ports):

/etc/conf.modules:
-------------------------------
...
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
options parport_pc io=0x3bc,0x278 irq=none,none

# If you have multiple parallel ports, specify them this way:
# options parport_pc io=0x378,0x278 irq=none,none

# For parallel port devices, uncomment the following two lines and
change
# "frpw" to the protocol type you use

# post-install paride insmod frpw
# pre-remove paride rmmod frpw
...
alias char-major-6 lp
...
